Raised Toilet Seat for Elderly

by Marie Simone
(Chicago)

My mother recently purchased a raised toilet seat for the elderly which she placed on top of the commode. Shortly afterwards, she was diagnosed with diverticulosis, gall stones, cysts on her kidneys and a small hernia.

I wonder if the raised seat is part of her problem. Please advise.

Dear Marie,

Not sure if your mum has been using sitting toilets all her life.

If so, then there is no change, in essence, if she is now using the raised toilet seat.

Is she able to squat?

If so, try to find out if there are squatting toilets available.

David
